Far Cry es un juego de acción táctica en primera persona que se desarrolla en un paraíso tropical. A lo largo del juego iremos recibiendo información sobre los objetivos a cumplir. El juego, cada cierto tiempo se irá completando con secuencias de vídeo que redondeando la historia. Está totalmente traducido al castellano para que nos podamos implicar al cien por cien en la historia.

Ahora somos Jack Carver, un empresario que dejó atrás su misterioso pasado para hacerse cargo de un negocio de alquiler de barcos en el pacífico sur. Todo comienza cuando Valerie Constantine nos contrata para llevarla a una isla “inexplorada” de Micronesia. Todo parece ir bien hasta que el barco en el que viajamos es atacado por mercenarios. A partir de este momento, nada volverá a ser como antes.

Nada más comenzar el juego nos encontramos con una confusa presentación en la que podemos observar el ataque que sufre el barco en el que viaja nuestro personaje. Tras la presentación, aparecemos totalmente desarmados mientras avanzamos por una serie de pasillos en el interior de un recinto en ruinas. Durante estos primeros pasos, el propio juego nos irá indicando los controles básicos para que podamos ir cogiendo soltura.
